The Oranda Sai-Kou (Dutch Riichi Open) 2011 consisted of nine rounds (hanchan) over two days of play.
The titel was claimed by Bert Claessen, Sjef Strik took second place and Nicolas Poilleux finished third.
Nicolas was leading the field after 7 rounds, Sjef was in the lead after 8, but it was Bert that had the best finish.
There were 68 particpants in ‘den Hommel’. They were playing on the third floor on Saturday, which was just a little too small for real convenience, but on Sunday the regular venue was available again and that was much better.
There were many French players and they proved once more that they are a force to be reckond with. We also welcomed a strong German delegation, some players from Brittain, a Swedish and a Finnish player (“I come bearing gifts” – Tom had quite some goodies from Reach.com to give away), a Russian, a Japanese and even a Canadian player.
And of course the secretary to the hosting Dutch federation – she’s playing for Portugal
