The Oranda Sai-Kou (Dutch Riichi Open) 2011 consisted of nine rounds (hanchan) over two days of play.

The titel was claimed by Bert Claessen, Sjef Strik took second place and Nicolas Poilleux finished third.

Nicolas was leading the field after 7 rounds, Sjef was in the lead after 8, but it was Bert that had the best finish.

There were 68 particpants in ‘den Hommel’. They were playing on the third floor on Saturday, which was just a little too small for real convenience, but on Sunday the regular venue was available again and that was much better.

There were many French players and they proved once more that they are a force to be reckond with. We also welcomed a strong German delegation, some players from Brittain, a Swedish and a Finnish player (“I come bearing gifts” – Tom had quite some goodies from Reach.com to give away), a Russian, a Japanese and even a Canadian player.

And of course the secretary to the hosting Dutch federation – she’s playing for Portugal :-)

The 2011 edition of the Tile Hog – Dutch Open was hosted by the Big Three Dragons / HUmaniacs once more. It took place on June 11 & 12 in NDC den Hommel, Utrecht. There were 48 particpants: 33 Dutch, 6 French, 5 German, 2 Belgian, 1 Russian and 1 Spanish player.

After 7 exiting rounds, Christel Bucher – a last minute addition to the field! – won the tournament, just beating Marianne Croeze: Christel had the same number of table points (22) as Marianne, but she had more mini-points (716 vs. 505). As highest ranked Dutch player, Marianne was crowned Dutch Champion 2011. The third prize went to another player from France: Eric Preault, who is playing at the same club as Christel and he scored 20 table points.

The team competition was just as exiting: the French were doing really well (Vente d’Est – all French and No Honors 50% French), but in the end the two teams from the Dutch ENMV (Rotterdam) tied for 1st place with 67 table points. Team iPad claimed the victory over ENMV on mini points (2.055 vs. 1.087); Vente d’Est, with Christel and Eric, took 3rd place.
